| BALTIMORE – The National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ (NAIC) recently elected Maryland Insurance Commissioner, Al Redmer, Jr., to serve on the board of the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC). Redmer will replace Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin from North Carolina as the NAIC representative to URAC.
“It is an honor to be chosen to represent my fellow state insurance commissioners on this very important healthcare board,” said Commissioner Redmer. “Insurance regulators have a unique perspective to bring to the conversation on the delivery of quality healthcare measures as well as the accreditation requirements in our ever evolving healthcare system.”
For 25 years, URAC has been the independent leader in promoting health care quality through accreditation, education and measurement.
URAC offers a wide range of quality benchmarking programs that reflect the latest changes in health care and provide a symbol of excellence for organizations to showcase their commitment to quality and accountability. URAC’s accreditation is nationally recognized by state and federal regulators to ensure the highest level of quality is delivered to consumers. URAC has more than 30 accreditation programs across the continuum of health care services.
URAC is governed by an independent third-party board of directors, and it functions as a third party. The URAC governing board of directors has representatives from all affected constituencies: consumers, providers, employers, regulators, and managed care industry experts.
