Maryland Insurance Administration Offers New Service to Consumers, Industry
The Maryland Insurance Administration announces the introduction of a free electronic notification service for consumers and insurance professionals. Subscribers to the service can receive emails or text messages alerting them when new information is added to the regulatory agency’s website. Anyone with an email address or cell phone can sign up for as many as 19 different topics. These include proposed regulations, industry bulletins, administrative orders (decisions), and community outreach events, among others.
Visitors can sign up for the free service online. GovDelivery provides the digital communications management service.
The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is an independent state agency that regulates Maryland's insurance industry and protects consumers by enforcing insurance laws. Adding the electronic subscription service is part of an ongoing effort by the MIA to enhance communications with consumers. In June, the agency launched a presence on Facebook. Earlier this month, Insurance Commissioner Therese M. Goldsmith recorded video messages in partnership with County Cable Montgomery to offer tips for claims handling, shopping for insurance, and preparing for disasters. And staff members from the agency’s Consumer Education and Advocacy Unit continue to visit hundreds of locations throughout the year to answer questions face to face.
