Egan Named Director of Government Relations
(May 14, 2014) – Maryland Insurance Commissioner Therese M. Goldsmith announces the appointment of Ms. Nancy Egan as Director of Government Relations for the Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA), effective today.
“Nancy has a deep understanding of complex insurance industry issues and practices, and I am pleased that she has chosen to put that knowledge to use for the citizens of our State,” said Commissioner Goldsmith. “She is uniquely suited to represent the MIA in Annapolis and beyond. I am pleased Nancy is willing to take on this challenging new role.”
As Director of Government Relations, Egan will be responsible for evaluating issues related to the regulation of insurance and the development of insurance markets. She will represent the Commissioner in matters before the Maryland General Assembly and the Governor’s Legislative Office.
Prior to her appointment as Director of Government Relations, Egan served as the Assistant Director of Government Relations at the MIA. In this capacity, she monitored insurance legislation and regulations, drafted legislative reports and served as staff for the MIA on legislative workgroups and task forces, including the Workgroup on Access to Habilitative Services Benefits. In addition, Governor Martin O’Malley appointed Egan to the State Interagency Coordinating Council for Infants and Toddlers.
Before joining the MIA in 2012, Egan was vice president and co-owner of the Mike Egan Insurance Agency. She also served as a member of the Agent’s Council for the Injured Worker’s Insurance Fund and chaired the Insurance Roundtable of Maryland. Egan was an active member in the Independent Insurance Agents of Maryland.
Egan received her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Baltimore, where she was a staff member of the University of Baltimore Law Review. Egan received her Bachelor of Science degree in international economics from the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. She is a member of the Maryland bar.
