Market Conduct Exams
The compliance unit reviews insurance company operations to determine how the company operates in the market place. The review includes, but is not limited to, sales practices, advertising materials, underwriting practices and claims handling practices. Examinations often help alert companies to problems and serve as a form of consumer protection. The resulting examination report presents a detailed analysis of a company's general business practice. The Maryland Insurance Administration also conducts target examinations, which focus on a specific statute, regulation or business practice.
Final examination reports from January 1, 2002, to present are posted. To obtain a report prior to 2002, issue a request in writing from the Public Information Act Coordinator. Photocopy fees may be charged.
