As Deputy Insurance Commissioner, Nancy Grodin was appointed by the Insurance Commissioner, with the approval of the governor, effective July 1, 2014. In addition to acting as the Fair Practices Officer, she oversees the daily operation of the agency's administrative functions, including Human Resources, Fiscal Services, Procurement, and Information Technology, as well as assisting with a variety of special projects as assigned.
Nancy began her career at the Insurance Administration as the Associate Commissioner for Compliance and Enforcement, overseeing the Market Conduct, Producer Enforcement, and Market Analysis Units. She was then promoted to the position of Associate Deputy Commissioner and primary hearing officer, conducting quasi-judicial adversarial evidentiary hearings.
Prior to joining the Maryland Insurance Administration, Grodin served in various positions with UnitedHealthcare, Mid-Atlantic Medical Services Inc., Chesapeake Health Plan, and PHH Group. She also served as judicial law clerk on the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland and practiced both insurance and intellectual property law at the Baltimore-based firm formerly known as Weinberg & Green.
Deputy Commissioner Grodin received her Juris Doctor degree with honors from the University of Baltimore School of Law. She earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Baltimore School of Business and a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Goucher College. Grodin is admitted to the Court of Appeals of Maryland and is licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
