Nancy Grodin was appointed Deputy Insurance Commissioner in July 2014, after having served as Associate Deputy Commissioner since October 2012. Prior to this appointment, Grodin was the Associate Commissioner of Compliance and Enforcement. As Deputy Insurance Commissioner, she works with the Insurance Commissioner to direct and supervise the functioning of the Maryland Insurance Administration, including oversight of the agency's administrative units, personnel decision making, and other matters arising out of the management of the agency. She serves as the Commissioner's designee in a variety of administrative hearings and helps to develop and communicate the agency's mission and strategic initiatives, along with a variety of special projects for the Commissioner.
Prior to joining the MIA, she served in various positions with UnitedHealthcare of the Mid-Atlantic Inc., Mid-Atlantic Medical Services Inc., Chesapeake Health Plan, and PHH Group. She also served as judicial law clerk on the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland and practiced both insurance and intellectual property law at the Baltimore-based firm formerly known as Weinberg & Green.
Grodin holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Goucher College, a master's of business administration and jurid doctor degrees from the University of Baltimore. She is admitted to the Court of Appeals of Maryland and is licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
