BALTIMORE (May 20, 2016) — Maryland Insurance Commissioner Al Redmer, Jr. will be conducting a series of public meetings related to the passage of House Bill 1318/Senate Bill 929 – Health Benefit Plans (Network Access Standards and Provider Network Directories). The Maryland Insurance Commissioner is tasked with adopting regulations to establish quantitative and, if appropriate, non-qualitative criteria to evaluate a carrier’s network sufficiency. The first meeting will be held Thursday, June 2, 2016 at the Maryland Insurance Administration, 200 St. Paul Place, 22nd Floor Francis Scott Key Room from 10 a.m. until noon.
“We are interested in hearing from all parties on their perspectives related to the criteria that should be used to evaluate a carrier’s network sufficiency, including those carriers that provide coverage for dental services, and the parts of a carrier’s access plan that may be considered confidential.” said Commissioner Redmer. “Each meeting will cover a different aspect of the proposed regulatory changes so we can dive deep into the issues.”
The agenda for the series of public meetings is posted on the MIA website at www.insurance.maryland.gov under Quick Links. Topics to be discussed at the first meeting include: any standards adopted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, any standards used by the federally facilitated marketplace and any standards adopted by another state.
